Sleds
The use of sledges is only allowed in very specific places in the Sierra de Guadarrama.
Sledding is perhaps one of the funniest ways to enjoy snowpack. A practice which followers number is increasing, but requires a responsible use to avoid accidents, both to the users themselves and the rest of the visitors.
The use of sleds should be done with caution and with the right equipment. The speed or poor control of the sled can cause accidents, sometimes very serious. Be careful with other users, especially with children.
According to the PORN of the Sierra de Guadarrama and the PRUG of Peñalara, it is permitted only in Special Zones (Puerto de Navacerrada and Valdesquí), in Transitional Zones and in those other sites the competent environmental agency can enable for this purpose, which in this case are Los Cotos Pass designated areas. Sliding on snow with plastics or other non-standard elements is prohibited.
Los Cotos Pass has two specially enabled areas for the practice, one of them for children up to 7 years. Be respectful of this rule, since its only purpose is to allocate an exclusive space for the little ones so that they can enjoy in the safest manner. The zone enabled in Cotos has a specific regulation that tries to conciliate the interests of all users, watching especially for the security. Every day the crew in charge of its maintenance steps the area with machine aid, to avoid the formation of "baths tubs" and to extend to the maximum the time of use and enjoyment. Some of these standards are listed below:
- Plastic or other items not approved are not allowed to slide.
- Climb up by the sides of the track to avoid being rolled up.
- Brawl before reaching the networks.
- Avoid staying inside the track and concentrating on groups.
- Dogs are not allowed to pass.
- TIME SCHEDULE: area open until 18:00 hours or until the beginning of conditioning and maintenance works.
