El parque nacional cuenta con una red de estaciones meteorológicas de alta montaña.

Más de 20 años realizando observaciones meteorológicas en el Parque Nacional

Desde el año 1998 se llevan a cabo, de forma continuada, observaciones de diversos parámetros meteorológicos en el valle de El Paular, Parque Nacional de la Sierra de Guadarrama. Puedes consultar los datos de las últimas 48 horas. Esto supuso un hito en la observación meteorológica en alta montaña y desde entonces existe un compromiso firme del Parque Nacional Sierra de Guadarrama para mantener unas observaciones pioneras y fundamentales para un seguimiento adecuado del clima de este territorio y, por extensión, de todo el planeta.

Los objetivos principales de este sistema de observación son:

  • hacer un seguimiento riguroso del clima;
  • conocer las condiciones meteorológicas reinantes;
  • promover la realización de estudios científicos relacionados con su gestión y conservación.

En todos esto años han participado, y siguen participando, numerosas personas que garantizan con su esfuerzo y profesionalidad la continuidad y calidad de las medidas obtenidas, personal del Parque o contratadas en el marco de la gestión del Parque Nacional Sierra de Guadarrama.

 

La Red

Actualmente la Red Meteorológica del Parque Nacional Sierra de Guadarrama (RMPNSG) está compuesta por 13 estaciones meteorológicas automáticas, algunas de ellas en proceso de instalación. También se realizan diariamente observaciones manuales complementarias en la estación de Cotos así como observaciones de forma no continuada en otros puntos del Parque para control de calidad e investigación.

Difusión y colaboraciones

El Parque Nacional Sierra de Guadarrama promueve inicitivas de colaboración con otros organismos públicos y privados en línea con los objetivos de la Red. A continuación se citan algunas de las acciones de difusión y colaboración más relevantes:

  • Actividades de difusión: Desde el año 2000 se ha participado activamente exponiendo los principales resultados del sistema en foros relacionados con la meteorología y el clima de montaña tales como congresos nacionales e internacionales (Japan Geoscience Union Meeting, European Geosciencies Union General Assembly, Jornadas Científicas del Parque Natural de Peñalara y del Valle del Paular, Jornadas Científicas de la Asociación Meteorológica Española, Conferencia Internacional sobre experiencia con Estaciones Meteorológicas Automáticas ), participando en la publicación de artículos científicos (Atmosphere, International Journal of Climatology, Proceedings Biological Sciences) y participando en jornadas formativas o de divulgación.
  • Intercambio de datos: Desde su implantación la red ha cumplido un servicio público suministrando los resultados de sus observaciones a numerosas entidades tanto públicas como privadas como por ejemplo: Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Ciemat, Universidad de Castilla La Mancha
  • AEMET: Desde el año 2011 el Parque colabora con la Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AeMet) en la toma de observaciones manuales en la estación de Cotos. Diariamente las observaciones son realizadas por personal del Parque y remitida a la Agencia para su utilización.
  • Proyecto CIEMAT-Ozono Troposférico: El grupo de Ecotoxicología de la Contaminación Atmosférica del CIEMAT lleva más de 10 años midiendo los niveles de contaminación atmosférica en la Sierra de Guadarrama y en el entorno del Parque Nacional, con el fin de determinar el riesgo de que se produzcan efectos sobre sus comunidades vegetales y ecosistemas. El Praque aloja una estacion de monitorización de la contaminación atmosférica junto a la estación de Cotos.
  • Proyecto GuMNet: desde el año 2014 el Parque colabora con el programa GuMNet perteneciente al consorcio formado por: Campus de Excelencia Internacional Moncloa, CIEMAT, AeMET y el Parque Nacional Sierra de Guadarrama. Esta colaboración permite aunar esfuerzos para la equipación y mantenimiento de estaciones automáticas y genera interesantes sinergias que permitirán mejorar el conocimiento sobre la climatología de la Sierra de Guadarrama en su conjunto.
  • Proyecto GECA-CIEMAT: El Parque colabora alojando los sensores necesario para estimar el depósito atmosférico de nitrógeno en su estación de Cotos.
  • Consejería de Medio Ambiente, Ordenación del Territorio y Sostenibilidad: El Parque Nacional Sierra de Guadarrama, aloja desde el año 2019 una de las estaciones fijas de medida de la contaminación atmosférica pertenecientes a la Red de Calidad del Aire de la Comunidad de Madrid.
  • Instituto Pirenaico de Ecología: El Centro de Investigación del Parque Nacional Sierra de Guadarrama participa en el proyecto liderado por el Instituto Pirenaico de Ecología: "El papel de la nieve en la hidrología de la Península Ibérica y su respuesta a procesos de cambio global", encaminado a comprender y cuantificar el papel de la nieve acumulada en las montañas españolas en la respuesta hidrológica de sus cuencas de drenaje.

Exceptional trees

In the National Park and its Influence Zone, there are 43 trees catalogued as exceptional, according to the Castilla León and Madrid Autonomous Communities environmental regulations. Among them 10 are located inner the National Park. In presence of one of those giants, we certainly cannot remain indifferent. Impressive stemflows, thick trunks and enormous twisted branches will invite us to contemplate and respect those nature jewels.
