The Centre for Captive Breeding of Threatened Amphibians of Guadarrama Mountains

The Captive Breeding Centre for Threatened Amphibians of Guadarrama Mountains, located at the Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Centre of the National Park of Guadarrama Mountains in Rascafría, was opened in 2008. Since then we have bred hundreds of Common Midwife Toads (Alytes obstetricans) in captivity which have been released in Peñalara Massif. With this project we will expand and improve the facilities of the centre, increasing the number of individuals born in captivity with a view to creating new populations of Alytes obstetricans in the National Park.
