Cristina Sausor, a new member of the team

rana transmisorWe are fortunate to have a new partner in the project: Cristina Sausor is a biologist specialising in animal behaviour and she is passionate about amphibian conservation.

Cristina will take care of the captive colony of the Common Midwife toads at the Centre for Captive Breeding of Threatened Amphibians of the Guadarrama Mountains.

Following on from her master's degree, Cristina is investigating the breeding of the Iberian frog in captivity. This amphibian species, endemic to the Iberian Peninsula, is vulnerable throughout the Guadarrama Mountains due to fish introductions. For years we have been reintroducing frogs in some areas of the Peñalara Massif where they were extinct. However, until now reintroduced specimens came from eggs collected in the field that we kept in captivity until metamorphosis. Achieving the captive breeding of the species would be a breakthrough for the reintroduction programme of the Iberian frog.

dibujo ranaIn addition to an interest in the study and conservation of amphibians, Cristina is also a scientific illustrator specialising in herpetofauna. You can see some of her work in this post.

Thanks Cristina, for joining the team and for your dedication to this project.
